As you know, I’ve been trying to cover words that I think are most functional and helpful in getting a little one or a minimally verbal child to communicate. This week is no exception! The sign of the week this week is “open”. Now, this sign can be a bit tricky because it can change depending on the context. For my clients that are using signs to communicate basic wants and needs, I do not introduce the variations of this sign, but I stick with the general sign. To do that, bring your hands (palms toward you) together about eye level and then rotate them out and away from you. It’s like you are pretending your hands are doors and they are opening up.
