Today’s featured app, Speak Colors, is another freebie!  Although, you can purchase an upgraded version for $3.99.

This app is great for lower level kiddos, especially those on the spectrum. It’s a great way to provide a visual representation of the words required to generate a given word or sentence.  There are seven colors (black, blue, green, orange, red, white, and yellow) and many pictures that are provided for each color.  The app offers two levels, phrase or sentence:

For the phrase level, a color and an object are pictured:

And for the sentence level, the words “the” and “is” are added in to make a full sentence:

When you touch the pictures, the object name or color is stated.  When you touch the words, they are also spoken aloud.  Usually, I like to tap each of the buttons so the sentence is read aloud.  Then, I like to turn the audio down and use the words and pictures almost like a pacing board.  I usually model, “The apple is red” as I tap my finger along each word or picture.  Then, I hand the iPad over and allow my client to give it a try.

There is also a record option to record your student or client’s voice, and then play it back for them.  Ideally, you’d like their recorded voice to match the target phrase or sentence.  This app is very straightforward, but that’s part of what I like about it.  It’s very easy to navigate and use.

Like I said before, this is the lite version, which is free.  There are added features if you upgrade to the HD version, which are shown in the screen shot below:

Thanks for stopping by for “Appy Monday”.  I hope that you have fun using this app!
