We all know that a good book is a great way to sneak speech, language, and literacy goals into your speech therapy sessions! Here are 5 Holiday books that I’ve rounded up for this season! Please note that the links listed below are not affiliate links, these are just books that I like and wanted to share.
Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson
This is a cute little story about a bear trying to stay awake to celebrate Christmas with his friends. This could be easily adapted for children with apraxia because there is a repetitive phrase ending with the word, up. Read the sentence a few times and then leave the last word out, providing them with the opportunity to say it.
The Night Before Hanukkah by Natasha Wing
This story talks about Jewish holiday traditions. It’s a great way to review vocabulary related to Hanukkah and also to discuss what to expect for children that benefit from discussing events in advance.
Search & Find Christmas Fun
This book is a FUN way to work on vocabulary! I picked it up at TJ Maxx, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re there! At the time of writing this post, I can only find an online link to eBay and it looks like Kohl’s had it, but it’s out of stock.
Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas by Jane O’Connor
This is another spectacular way to work on vocabulary! Fancy Nancy sneaks in some great vocabulary, which she refers to as words that are “fancy”.
The Biggest Smallest Christmas Present by Harriet Muncaster
This is a fun book for working on basic concepts (big/small) and superlatives! It’s a really cute story of a girl who is very, very small and receives Christmas presents from Santa that are just too big for her! It’s sure capture your students’ interest!
And there you have my five favorite Holiday books for speech therapy! I know there are a ton, and I’m only touching the surface here! Please comment and share what books you like to use during the holiday season!
